Essential oils are one of those things that sound a little woo until you actually use them. Then suddenly you’re the person who carries a tiny bottle everywhere and says things like, “Wait, smell this.”
At their core, essential oils are highly concentrated plant extracts - the scent, essence, and character of a plant distilled into powerful drops. They work with our senses in a way that doesn’t just smell nice, but feels like a tiny reset for your brain and body.
I use them not to fix life, but to support moments - calming a room, helping people drop into stillness, or giving myself a gentle boost when I need it.
Why people love essential oils.
What makes essential oils special isn’t just the smell - it’s how directly they speak to your nervous system.
They’re fast - scent goes straight to emotion and mood
They’re versatile - same oil, many uses
They create atmosphere - instantly changes how a space feels
They support ritual - grounding, energizing, or calming
A few drops can turn an ordinary moment into something intentional.
Different ways to use essential oils.
There’s no single right way - it’s about what fits your life:
Diffuser/humidifier: I add 3-5 drops to my humidifier to set the vibe.
Direct inhalation: A drop in your hands, create a cup and take a deep breath.
On fabrics/objects: Eye pillows, yoga props, towels.
On the body:
I put oils on my temples when I’m tired or have a headache, or on pulse points for grounding.
If you use essential oils for a massage, make sure you use carrier oils (Jojoba or almond) in the ratio 3-5 drops of essential oil to 30ml carrier oil.
In relaxation practices: When I guide people through savasana, I’ll rub a drop between my hands or add a subtle scent to eye pillows before handing them out.

Final thoughts.
Because essential oils are concentrated, a little goes a long way. Look for labels like “100 % pure” or specific botanical names on the bottle - that’s usually a sign they’re real and not just scented oils.
Essential oils are small rituals in a busy world. They don’t fix everything, but they can be a first aid or transform little moments - making your morning routine feel intentional, your savasana deeper, or your evening calmer.
Sometimes that’s all you need.
Cheers, Timmie
